Did Soybean Originate in China!?
There are more than 13,000 species of leguminous plants in the world. Soybean
is the most representative. Its root is believed to be either in Manchuria/Siberia
or Southern China. According to historical evidence, it was brought from the north
between 400-200 B.C., and was called "Ebisu (alien) Beans" It was introduced
to Japan in the Yayoi period, together with paddy rice. In East Asia, Soybean
was the most widely cultivated among the many leguminous plants. Soybean is the
basis of the typical Asian cuisine, such as Soy Sauce, Tofu and Miso. |
